About Amir

Visual artist based in Alexandria, Egypt. In 2015 he joined the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Alexandria as a Teaching Assistant. his work at this institution has made him further committed to questions of art and pedagogy; processes of learning and leadership that can address uneven educational and cultural resources specific to the city of Alexandria, Egypt.

As an artist his practice is concerned with media archaeology and robotics. He works with a variety of media, including video, installation and sculpture, always exploring aspects of movement and kineticism. Since childhood He had been taking great pleasure in inventing moving objects, transforming the form and functionality of toys. He sees many parts of his current practice as an extension of this curiosity for understanding how things work, and alter their function and meaning.

This process has enabled him to experiment with different kinds of materials and ideas. He became more sensitive to the meaning and value of materials while assisting the American artist Theaster Gates in 2012 on his Huguenot House, a project on the occasion of DOCUMENTA 13, Gates renovated a dilapidated house, with the help of artists and musicians, and transformed the space completely, giving it a new purpose, meaning and use. It became a central space for the resident and visiting community of artists, curators, and documenta visitors. part of the exhibition community and the show. At the same time, he had the opportunity to work as Art Director for artist Wael Shawky’s film El Araba El Madfuna Part II 2013.

After  obtaining his DNA form the École supérieure d’art d’Aix-en-Provence Félix Ciccolini, recently he is working on his Master research "Kinêmaniaque" and  his project Floating Spaces took place at the Arselectronica Festival 2020 in collaboration with the university of Art&Design, Linz, Austria. And this year 2021 Floating Spaces "Lost Paradise" took place at the Lab30 festival in Augsbourg, Germany, at the TIM museum.
